Juneteenth Activities

-

Performances that reflect African American Heritage to include poetry readings, musicians, dancers, choirs, Gospel, Hip Hop, Jazz, Rhythm and Blues!

 

 

View  original artwork by African American artists.  Visit Displays  that will teach about African American history from slavery through the civil right movement to the present!

 

 

Non-profits that serve the community will set-up displays to inform participants about their services.  Blood pressure screenings and health information will be available!

 

 

Vendors sell an array of ethnic products from shea butter products to African attire.  Enjoy fun foods and treats with an Afrocentric flair!!

 

Young people will be educated about African American history through games, displays, crafts and music!

Living History of Enslaved African Women

Malloy/Jordan East Winston Heritage Center, 1110 East Seventh Street, Winston-Salem

An afternoon of Storytelling with The North Carolina Association of Black Storytellers (NCABS) and

“A String of PEARLS” (ASOP). Each storyteller will reenact the life of an enslaved African American

woman by giving voice to her struggles and triumphs through personal slave narratives.

Juneteenth Worship Service -

Old St. Philips Church 911 S. Church Street in Old Salem, Winston-Salem, NC

Speaker - Dr. Cedric Rodney Service will be held in the church where Blacks gathered in 1865 to hear

the General Orders read that the slave population was free. There will be a re-enactment of this historic

event. There will also be free tours of Old St. Philips Church and the reconstructed log church adjacent

to the African Graveyard. Light refreshments will be served.
